January 24, 2008 - 8:38 pm: coldness
Freezing cold here again tonight. I am tired of the Midwest and hope this is the last Winter I spend here. I was able to go see the kid after work, we had some dinner, watched some Disney channel, read a story and then she was out like a light. It has been well over a month since I read her a story and put her to bed, and it was great, great also to give her the 2 stuffed animal kittens she requested that I bring back from New York. It was really strange to be in my ex-girlfriends bedroom with all of her stuff surrounding me, I admit. But I didn't snoop, which would have been a not-good thing for me or anyone, although I of course was tempted. The kid started her new school yesterday and she likes it. She is back living in the house she lived in before we bought the house, and having her grandma and grandpa and aunt and uncle around is a good thing. Granted, I think it's weird that their whole family lives together and that the "kids" are in their 20s and it seems utterly unmotivated to ever leave the house or grow up, but it's a family that's not going to be mine and it does feel okay to be free of that weirdness. Overall I am doing okay.
Listening to good new-to-me music. M.I.A., Manu Negra, Mano Chao, Roky Ericson, Bados Band and some other stuff I can't recall right now. I just need to sell my house, get a job in NY and get the hell out of here. Looking forward to it, very much looking forward to it.
