  • June 01, 2004 - 9:49 am: The Old Hawaiian

NYC was decent family time, although it was a good bit of money to drop to hang around an apartment for a day and a half. But still, my little bro graduated from High School and you have to go to the party for that. My younger siblings are really great kids. New York stresses the hell out of me for the most part, I actually feel myself physically tense up when I'm there with my family, it's weird. Let's just say that I didn't really enjoy the two years I went to High School in the Bronx and leave it at that.

The weather has been really nice here. My flight was delayed three and half hours on Sunday and I didn't even really mind, I just read the paper and a really good book ('Why Did I Ever') and ate lunch. LaGuardia airport isn't so bad after all.

After that, more bar-b-qing at B and K's place, as well as playing Uno with a six-year-old who frequently changes the rules as the game progresses, followed by a few hours of poker playing. Texas Hold 'Em in the basement was fun as HELL. I think we're going to get a consistent game going, because that shit is *fun*.

At one point when L (six year old) was behind in the Uno game, he made a move he called (I kid you not) "The Old Hawaiian", wherein he was allowed to turn in the majority of his cards. I didn't buy it, the rascal. But where in the hell did that name come from? Sometimes kids are really really funny.

Hung out with an old friend this weekend and it was good, it's nice to touch base with other people in this city that are doing their thing. I had to do an hour-long presentation this morning and I was freaking out about it, because I couldn't prepare much over the weekend. But, I got it all together this morning, ran over to the building, and presented the *HELL* out of databases and search strategies relevant to multicultural health care issues. That's right, that's bad-effing-ass right there.

I feel better as of right now. It's about time.
